Coming soon

In August 2008, members of the Book Mafia at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts in Hot Springs, Arkansas, will be posting reviews of books they read from the library collection.

Check back then to see what our students have to say...

The Knife of Never Letting Go

When I read the line "Poo. Poo, Tod." on the first page of this book, I never expected to be pleased. Unfortunately, I was not disappointed with this assumption.
Some authors can pull off the subtle use of misspelled words and slang to pull us into the world of their imagination, unfortunately Patrick Ness uses slang and misspelled words like a hammer.
I also feel that the word "germ" can be replaced with something slightly more appropriate. Biologically speaking their is nothing wrong with calling something that wiped out a major percentage of the human race on a planet a germ, but the word germ gives off the wrong connotations. The words plague, virus, or bacteria sound much more deadly then germ.
