Excellent book!!!! Absolutely a must read for any fans of The Giver. The plot flowed nicely and it had a few unexpected twists and turn. Defiantly one that I would read more than once. I really hope there is a sequel.
However, I couldn't help but notice how close this story was to The Giver. I mean, a community shut off from the outside world in a futuristic setting where kids are designated certain jobs to fulfill in their adult life...it is cutting it a little close. I could defiantly see this book becoming a side story to The Giver. There are enough deviations to make Birthmarked its own entity and I believe teens will enjoy it.
